The STC-5 is a handheld vocal microphone, simple, that’s obvious. Well,
not quite…
Rather than the usual dynamic capsule found in most hand-held or stage
microphones, the STC-5, like other Sontronics models, is a condenser
microphone. It has a large, gold-sputtered cardioid capsule which
delivers a crystal clear performance every time, whatever your style.
In simple terms, the STC-5 is more sensitive than its dynamic
counterparts and captures your voice in significantly more detail. The
result is more akin to what you would expect to hear from a studio mic,
with very low handling noise and a very high signal-to-noise output.
The cardioid polar pattern helps to reject sounds entering the capsule
from the sides, which is essential for producing a clear ‘image’ on
stage, and will forever endear you to the guys working behind the mixing
desk. You may have to adapt your mic technique slightly to use the
STC-5, simply because you have to work less to get the same result the
you’re used to getting from your regular dynamic mic – at the end of the
day, this can’t be a bad thing.
Located in the ergonomically cast body is a low-cut filter switch that
will help to reduce any stage rumble when the microphone is on a stand.
So, if your band-mates are prone to jumping about the stage whilst
you’re trying to deliver a meaningful vocal, this little switch could
save the day - if not your sanity!
The STC-5 is supplied with a mic clip and a tough ABS plastic carrying
case.
