So, you’ve got all of the other gear; the computer, the software, the
pre-amp, the monitors – it’s time for your first ‘proper’ microphone.
The STC-2 employs a 1" gold-sputtered capsule and is ideally suited for
recording vocals, spoken word and acoustic instruments. The evenly
balanced frequency response delivers a defined low-end perfectly matched
to a very detailed, open top-end, capturing your subject in all its
colours.
Some microphones have artificially-boosted high frequencies to make them
sound bright and ‘airy’. However, this accentuates sibilant sounds, and
can lead to a very harsh and unpleasant result. The STC-2 has a very
smooth high frequency roll-off, ensuring a more natural presence to your
recordings.
The STC-2’s low-cut filter and –10dB pad switches will further help you
get the best from your recording, making this microphone a really
flexible all-round tool for your studio.
A ‘spider’ suspension mount is also provided, which helps to isolate the
sensitive microphone from any transient noises travelling through the
microphone stand.
Supplied in a smart aluminium flight case, the STC-2 represents
incredible value for money and will put you on the right track to
getting great results.
